Inside Mayon: an inference, not an X-ray.

The transparent forms beneath the model explain how scientists reason about magma storage, conduits, dikes, and hydrothermal systems. They are not directly imaged chamber walls or a statement about present activity.

What observations can constrain

Volcanologists combine erupted materials with monitoring, mapping, and physical interpretation to constrain processes and possible storage conditions.

What is inferred

Shapes, exact positions, connections, and dimensions beneath the surface are model choices for explanation. They are not a surveyed underground map.

How to state confidence

Say whether a claim is a direct observation, an interpretation supported by several observations, or a visual illustration made for teaching.

Why the model is deliberately schematic

A useful explainer makes its confidence visible. The Mayon interior therefore uses restrained, transparent forms and labels them as inferred. It should never be used to infer current magma movement, predict an eruption, or make a safety decision.
